- Back Pain
Almost everyone will suffer with back pain at some point in their life and research shows that it is one of the most common reasons for taking time off work. Between 50-80% of people will suffer recurring episodes within 1-5 years. Some people will develop radiating leg pain that can also be associated with numbness, weakness and/or pins and needles. This is often referred to as sciatica.
Chiropractic care has been shown to be safe and effective in the management of low back pain and sciatica and is included in the NICE guideline (NG59) for low back pain and sciatica. Many other international guidelines recommend the treatments provided by chiropractors.
There are many causes of back pain and often it is a combination of factors that result in back pain rather than one single cause. Your Chiro Health Chiropractor will ask you questions about your daily activities and your past history as well as conducting a thorough physical examination in order to identify the cause of the problem. We can also arrange for X-rays, MRI and ultrasound scans if they are necessary.
Our Chiropractors are specially trained to detect spinal joint problems and assess your problem thoroughly. Standard orthopaedic and neurological tests may also be used to reach a diagnosis. Treatment offered by your Chiropractor will be specifically tailored for you and your back pain with the aim of getting you feeling better and able to manage your condition as quickly as possible. This can be achieved using a package of care that might include spinal manipulation or mobilisation, medical acupuncture, soft tissue therapies (including stretching and massage), home exercises and advice.
Our patients are encouraged to be involved in their care by keeping active, following exercise rehabilitation programs (if appropriate) and by learning about their problem and how to manage it.
