- Joint & Muscle Problems
The joints in our body can be affected in many different ways, for example; joint restriction, joint degeneration (also known as osteoarthritis) and joint hypermobility. All of these have the potential to cause pain or discomfort. More often than not, these joint issues are associated with muscular problems.
Muscle problems themselves are often enough to cause a certain amount of discomfort, however, the two tend to occur together. When a joint is not functioning properly weakness or imbalance in the supporting muscle often occurs, this can worsen the joint dysfunction and therefore needs to be addressed in the management of these cases.
Your chiropractor is trained to detect and diagnose problems with joints and muscles using a thorough history, examination and in some cases the use of an X-ray. Once a diagnosis is made your practitioner may be able to offer treatment that aims to restore or improve joint function.
This can have a positive effect on the pain and stiffness often felt in these cases. Treatment may include chiropractic manipulation or mobilisation, soft tissue therapies, ultrasound therapy, acupuncture, shockwave therapy as well as exercises to strengthen weak muscles and improve flexibility.
Advice on nutrition, supplements and lifestyle may also be offered to ensure a multifactorial approach.
